White Paper
Advanced Workload Analysis Techniques
April 2008
 |
After business and technical constraints have been analyzed, virtualization planning becomes a trade-off between how much you can fit on a server and how poorly each application will perform as a result. This is particularly true of production environments where performance is paramount or when performing cross-platform virtualization, where differences in the host architecture’s ability to house certain types of workloads must be taken into consideration. In order to achieve both acceptable utilization and risk levels while meeting service and performance requirements, it is necessary to accurately determine what an application’s resource demands will look like in the target environment, which will by definition be different from the environment it came from. This paper outlines how to properly analyze utilization curves when virtualizing IT environments. |
